Summer blooms are beginning to happen. These are from the high desert, south of Grand Canyon.
The Whipple Cholla is a dense and low to the ground cactus. They are found in the southwest desert areas. Because they are frost tolerant, you may see them above 8000′ feet in elevation. These rocks were found in a 6000 feet elevation pinon juniper area in northern Arizona. I don’t know what these rocks are, but I thought they were pretty interesting. This blooming whipple cholla cactus was in this high desert area as well.
