Here are two different Lupine’s I saw on a recent walk here in northern Arizona. They are Silvery Lupine and Shortstem Lupine. Similar leaves, yet the height of the plant and the size of the flower clusters show the biggest differences.
Shortstem Lupine are low growing wildflowers that are found in dry southwest areas with sagebrush, joshua trees, pinyon-juniper trees, or coniferous woodlands. The flowers are small with blue-purple tone and the leaves are palmate. I found these in a mountain meadow area in northern Arizona.
