Firewheel Blanket Flowers are in the Aster family of flowers. They can be found in arid, gravelly or sandy areas. They generally flower from April to September. They are native to northern Mexico and south and central United States. I found this one in July at Picture Canyon in northern Arizona.
Here are some flowers in my garden. Clockwise: Shasta Daisy, yellow Osteospermum, Firewheel Blanket flower, Echinacea with purple Veronica flowers in background.
Here are some autumn photos from Picture Canyon in Flagstaff. Picture Canyon Natural and Cultural Preserve is sanctuary that has an agreement with the Wildcat Hill Wastewater Treatment plant, which gives the preserve a water source all year long. These Northern Sinagua petroglyphs I saw while walking along the Tom Moody trail.
