Here is a flower to brighten your winter day! This is a North American aster, the species is called Aster Amelius. They are star shaped lilac wild flowers with dark green leaves, which bloom from July to October. This one was in northern Arizona this past autumn.

Here are some early autumn wildflowers I saw at the Picture Canyon Natural and Cultural Preserve recently. Picture Canyon in Flagstaff is a great place to see birds, bugs, and other wildlife. It has a lush riparian area along the canyon, some amazing Northern Sinagua petroglyphs, and an outdoor education area.
The earth’s tilt has now made the angle of the sun noticeably different, creating more striking shadows. The nights have cooled off a bit and another blanket is needed in the early morning.
