The Grand Canyon is an amazing place to visit! Here is a re-post of information about how old some of the layers in the Grand Canyon are, as well as the “years ago” of other things living and non-living within the universe.
First of all, the universe is 13.82 billion years old.
The sun is around 4.6 billion years old.
The Earth is 4.54 billion years old. The Earth’s moon is 4.53 billion years old.
The earliest evidence of life forms on earth is 3.8 billion years.
The schist rock in the bottom of the Grand Canyon is around 2 billion years old.
The limestone rock on the upper rim of the Grand Canyon is around 230 million years old.
The earliest evidence of Homo sapiens or modern humans, is about 164 thousand years ago. They were living on the coast in South Africa, where they harvested food from the sea.
The Industrial Revolution of coal, railroads, land clearing, agriculture and sanitation, about 200 years ago. (1800-1840)
The Industrial Revolution of fertilizers and other chemicals, electricity, and public health, a little over a 100 years ago. (1870-1910)
World War I ended a little over a 100 years ago. (1914-1918)
The Grand Canyon became a national park on February 26, 1919.
World War II ended almost 80 years ago. (1939-1945)
Humans are one of about 8.7 million different species of the earth’s land and oceans. As of 2022, there are about 8 billion people.
While processing these ages, for perspective, I wanted to show how short our human existence has been. Enjoy your time in this life!

What an awesome post! I love putting things in context. Fabulous job! 🙂
