A Black Phoebe is a flycatcher found in Mexico, the southwest and California in the United States. They can be found in water areas. They catch and eat flying insects from the perch. While perching, they are usually fanning and bobbing their tails. Here is a Black Phoebe I saw recently at a duck pond.

I had never knowingly seen a flycatcher before our trip to Arizona this spring. Between the Vermillion flycatcher we saw in Yuma, and this one of yours, though, I am beginning to get an eye for what they look like. Thanks for helping me learn!

I recently had one at my house. I thought it was a black cardinal… which I googled. Found out it was a flycatcher. Pretty neat to watch.
