Palo Verde means “green tree” or “green pole” in Spanish. The bark of a Palo Verde is green because it is filled with chlorophyll. This tree conducts a majority of its photosynthesis in the bark and some in the leaves. This is the Foothill or Yellow Palo Verde in the Arizona Transition Zone area.

Incredible! Does the palo verde bother with leaves? Or does it do ALL it’s photosynthesis through it’s bark?

My understanding is a little with the leaves, as well.
