GAMBEL OAK

Here is a Gambel Oak changing in autumn in northern Arizona. The Gambel name comes from William Gambel, a naturalist from Philadelphia, who traveled the West in the 1840’s. He collected and studied specimens of this tree, along with some new birds including Gambel’s Quail, Mountain Chickadee, and Nuttall’s Woodpecker.
