Common Mergansers have long and slender bodies with red bills and feet. The male has a long white body with a black back and dark green head. The female is gray with red crested head, white chin and chest. Both have saw-edge on upper part of the beak. They live in various places in North America around lakes, ponds, and rivers. Generally not found in Mexico, the southeastern part of the U.S., or the northern middle U.S. I found these by one of my favorite duck ponds in northern Arizona.
