American White Pelicans are large water birds. These pelicans are found in southern parts of the the U.S. into Mexico and in western parts of the U.S. and Canada. They are white, with black primaries and an orange bill. Found among marshes, lakes, and coastal areas, they scoop up fish while swimming.

Pelicans are treasured here in Canada. Pelicans arriving are harbringers of spring, and there are many contests, put forward, trying to posit the date of arrival, with a prize extended to those fortunate enough to guess the lucky date, which is usually just after Easter most years.
