Dryas Iulia also known as Julia can be found in gardens and islands in tropical and sub-tropical areas within southern Texas and Florida in the U.S., into Central America, the Caribbean Islands, and northern South America. Julia’s are Brush-footed butterflies that are orange with black markings on their long and narrow wings. They are fast flyers that feed on flower nectar. The caterpillars feed on the leaves of passion flowers that are poisonous. I saw this one and others in a nearby butterfly house.
Beautiful captures! I learned about the Julia butterfly only recently from our master gardener who works in the butterfly garden at our local wetlands. Little did I realize there were so many, yet I’d never noticed them before.
