Black Phoebe’s are found predominately in Mexico, and the southwest and California in the United States. They are mostly black with a white belly and white on their wing-bars The immature birds have brownish cinnamon color on their wing-bars instead of the white. Black Phoebe’s can be found in areas that have water and are flycatchers. They catch and eat flying insects from the perch. While perching, they are usually fanning and bobbing their tails. I watched this immature Black Phoebe in my yard for a while one afternoon.

Pretty. Although I’ve seen Eastern Phoebes, I never knew there was a Black Phoebe.
