Nuthatches are small birds with large heads, short tails, strong feet for climbing, and powerful bills. Red-Breasted Nuthatches have a black line through the eye with a white line above it and rusty colored underside. They can be found among coniferous forest areas throughout much of the United States and Canada. Nuthatches eat insects, nuts, or seeds. They can be found among feeders that have suet or seeds. I saw this female Red-Breasted Nuthatch at the woods edge in northern Minnesota.
