Dandelions are an important flower, although some consider it a weed. It is the first food source in spring for many insects. Also, some of the first available flowers, which give early access to nectar and pollen, especially for bees and butterflies.
I am so pleased whenever I read something about dandelions… because they provide bees with some of their first nectar as well as being delicious and nourishing to eat. In Maine I am the only person I know that scattered dandelion seeds in her yard! Here with the drought they are infrequent, tiny and wizened – no dandelion spring here.
