Here are some photos for comparison of House Finchs and a Cassin’s Finchs. Note the most prominent feature that is different, is the House male finch has red above his eye and on cheeks, while the Cassin’s male has a red “mohawk” and white around the eye. The female Cassin’s has a distinct white line above the eye and and more vivid pattern on her body. House Finches are common everywhere in southern Canada, the U.S. and Mexico. Cassin’s Finches are interior western U.S. birds, found in higher elevation mountain areas.
Wonderful images. Finches are so absolutely beautiful

OH! Oh! This is good! Every spring I agonize over whether I’m seeing house finches or Cassin’s. I can never tell from the descriptions in the guide book.
But Mohawk, white around the eye.
Got it!
Thanks!
