Wood Ducks are very conspicuous with their bright colors, face patterns, and sweptback crest on the males. They females are dull-colored with dark head and white eye patch. They are found in wooded water areas, also perching in trees. Wood Ducks eat primarily nuts and seeds. I have seen this Wood Duck along with a female in a Ponderosa Pine area I frequent in northern Arizona.

Beautiful detail!

They are amazing, aren’t they?

Wood Ducks show the magic of nature, maybe at play. I’ve often thought about female colors in nature, soft colors that blend with vegetation. Not dull, but sheltering.
