The Stellar’s Jay are a unique blue bird with a dark head and crest. They are found in western North America as far north as southern Alaska and south into northern-central Mexico. They are unmistakable with their loud and harsh notes, as well as their ability to mimic hawks. I found this one among a northern Arizona Ponderosa pine forest. I wrote more about them here: STELLAR’S JAY.

What a beautiful shot, Tracy, they are such beautiful birds.

Loved these birds whenever I visited forested areas of the Sonoran sky islands and in California’s Laguna Mountains.

Just a week or so I had my first visit from a Stellar’s jay… that crest of theirs really gets to me and their expressions -one of which you caught above – comical -don’t you think?
