A Paracotalpa Puncticollis is from the family of beetles called Scarab. The sub-family are Shining Leaf Beetles. There is no common name for this particular beetle. This Paracotalpa Puncticollis was found in a high desert Pinyon-Juniper area in northern Arizona. I took these photos back in May.
There are around 350,000 species of beetles in the world, accounting for 25% of all life forms on the planet. More are discovered every day! There are 30,000 species of Scarab beetles.
Wow I had no idea there were so many scarab beetles and this one is a beauty!
