Coyotes are found throughout much of the U.S. and Canada. Their colors are mottled gray and orange above, white below. They lave long legs and bushy tails with a black tip. Coyotes are solitary hunters that eat small mammals, birds, reptiles, and amphibians. In winter months, they will eat carrion from larger animals. They can run at speeds up to 40 MPH and and can leap 14 feet, they are known for traveling great distances, as well. I came across this coyote walking along the forest road in a Ponderosa Pine woodland area.
