The Desert Mariposa Lily, also called the Mariposa Tulip or Star Tulip, are blooming in central Arizona. They can be found among various open desert areas in western Arizona, southern California, southern Nevada, or northern Mexico. They are in the Mohave and Sonoran deserts with creosote-brush or pinyon-juniper pines. They stand out because of their brilliant color among other desert wildflowers, the hues of this bloom can vary from scarlet to orange, and yellow in higher elevation areas. These flowers were found among saguaro and prickly pears in central Arizona.

I want to see one of these lilies!

I am starting to watch for wildflowers – some of which bloom so early like the heron’s bill – This is a beautiful lily, and I hope to come upon one at some point. I’m curious; what are those little flowers in the background?
