There are many different species of maple trees, over 120 worldwide, with most native to Asia. Maples are distinct by their opposite leaf arrangement, the leaves in most species are palmate lobed with veins. This maple in my neighborhood is an Amur maple, the stark, blazing red is a treat in autumn.
