The Western Kingbird can be found in open country areas, perching on wires and fence posts. They hunt from the perch and fly out to catch insects. They will eat wasps, bees, beetles, grasshoppers, flies, caterpillars, spiders, and millipedes, along with fruit and berries. Western Kingbirds can be found west of the Mississippi, in the United States, southern Canada, and northern Mexico. They are very widespread. They have a distinct black tail with a narrow white edge. I found this Kingbird in the Garland Prairie area in northern Arizona.
