I just love these little flowers, the beginning of their peak blooming puts us right in the middle of summer. You can see these sky blue beauties from spring into autumn, in various habitats. They are native to western North America. The wild blue flax like well-drained soil and a lot of sun, in meadows or the edges of pinyon-juniper, coniferous, or alpine wooded areas. Each floret is about an inch and a half in diameter and the stalks can be up to 18 inches tall. Here are a few pictures from one of my frequent walking trails.
