Here are two birds I watched while on the hiking trail. I do see them both throughout the year, hopping on the ground looking for grub. Gray-headed juncos are a dark eye junco sub-species that typically skitters on the ground pecking or scratching at leaf litter or low underbrush seeking food from twigs and leaves. American Robins are thrushes that will quickly walk around on the ground looking for worms. They represent two very different size birds that live in the same areas.
