Daffodils are a definite sign of spring. The Narcissus plant is genus of predominantly spring perennial plants in the Amaryllidaceae family. Common names include daffodil, daffadowndilly, narcissus, and jonquil. They are vibrant flowers with six outer petals and a trumpet shaped center. The flowers are generally yellow or white with some orange and pink varieties as well, all with a contrasting center color. They are native to southwest Europe, North Africa, and the Western Mediterranean area. In North America, they can be found in meadows, woods, and yards in most areas, except southern Florida. They generally bloom in the early spring if planted in autumn.
